And it happened, as He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!” But He said, “More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”
Pope Paul VI writes in his Encyclical Marialis Cultus, That the Blessed virgin is an exemplar in this field derives from the fact that she is recognized as a most excellent exemplar of the Church in the order of faith, charity and perfect union with Christ,(43) that is, of that interior disposition with which the Church, the beloved spouse, closely associated with her Lord, invokes Christ and through Him worships the eternal Father.(44)
21 Mary is not only an example for the whole Church in the exercise of divine worship but is also, clearly, a teacher of the spiritual life for individual Christians. The faithful at a very early date began to look to Mary and to imitate her in making their lives an act of worship of God and making their worship a commitment of their lives.
Pope Paul wrote that Mary was the first and the most perfect disciple of Christ. We’re reminded that charity and the spirit of service were her driving actions. We are all called to be disciples of Christ. Mary offered us a true example of humility and servitude. As a mother, she sacrificed and truly gave everything she had to the service of God. Mary is worthy of imitation by all of us today.
We celebrate on August 15th the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary with excitement and honor for the woman who teaches us how to be charitable, giving, humble and servants to our Lord. We are challenged to go out and be the beacon of light that Mary has demonstrated. Honor our mother in Christ and imitate her ways as we deal with others in today’s society. Imagine if everyone were to do this, just how wonderful our world would be! Are you up to the challenge? I guarantee you that it will be a life changing experience here and after!
God bless you and may the Blessed Mother intercede for your intentions.
